How To Add A Bookmark Site Script To Your Website

Submitted by on May 30, 2008 – 2:21 pmNo Comment

One way to increase traffic to your website is to get first-time visitors to come back to your website again i.e. to become a returning visitor.

However, if a visitor can’t remember your website URL (especially long URLs and URLs with lots of dashes), they can’t return to your website, even if they wanted to!

The solution?

Add a ‘Bookmark this site’ link on your webpage!

There are two ways to add a ‘Bookmark this website’ link on your website and the good news is both are FREE methods!

Method #1 – Using A ‘Bookmark This Site’ Javascript Code (The More Complex Method)

There are many websites where you can get a ‘Bookmark This Site’ javascript code, but be sure to find one that is cross-browser compatible i.e. works properly in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera.

Most authors who create these codes will require you to leave a copyright notice in the code intact.

I highly recommend you abide by their copyright requirements.

Here’s a resource where you can obtain a ‘Bookmark this site’ javascript for your website:

Method #2 – Using AddThis.com Bookmarking Service (The Easier Method)

AddThis.com takes away the complexity of creating a ‘Bookmark this site’ link by simplifying the bookmark link creation process.

An additional advantage of using AddMe.com is it allows the visitor to not only add your website as a favorite in their internet browser, but also in various social bookmarking sites like digg.com, del.icio.us, FaceBook etc.

Finally, AddThis.com bookmarking service offers daily tracking stats and the ability to export the stats.

All you need to get started is create a user account at AddMe.com
